The Challenge

Marketing leaders are expected to understand competitor activity, market shifts, hiring trends, messaging changes, partnerships, and emerging opportunities. Most of this information exists publicly, but gathering and interpreting it requires significant time and effort. The challenge was to create a system capable of continuously monitoring market signals and transforming them into actionable intelligence - so "almost real-time" or as close as possible.

My Role

I collaborated with senior marketing leadership from a global business services organization to design and develop an AI-powered competitive intelligence platform. The project began as a series of n8n workflows used to validate assumptions and test insight quality.

As the concept matured, I led the evolution into a dedicated platform built on modern cloud infrastructure, integrating data acquisition, enrichment, AI analysis, and reporting capabilities.

Key Insights

  1. The value of AI comes from intelligence, not content generation. The most impactful systems identify relevant data, detect meaningful signals, and support better decision-making.

  2. Data quality matters more than model quality. AI becomes significantly more valuable when combined with curated, enriched, and continuously updated information sources.

  3. Continuous monitoring outperforms periodic research. Competitive intelligence is most effective when organizations can identify market shifts and emerging opportunities in near real time.

  4. AI is a force multiplier for strategic teams. By automating data collection and analysis, marketing leaders can spend less time gathering information and more time acting on it.

Why It Matters

Takeaway
